Limited Shared Space and Vehicle Options

To ensure an intimate and personalized experience, we offer limited shared space on our tours. In one of our Ford F150’s, we can accommodate 1 to 3 passengers, while our GMC Savana Van can cater to groups of 1 to 7 passengers.

All vehicles provide the same exceptional service and captivating experiences.

Please take note of the following important information when making a booking with Sub-Arctic Tours:

  • Where: We are pleased to offer the convenience of pick-up services. Just tell us where you are staying.

  • When: Tour duration: 6 hours, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. There's a one-hour lunch break, and meals are not provided. The tour resumes from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

  • How to book:

  • Booking for One Spot Only: When you make a booking, please be aware that you are booking for one spot only. Each booking is valid for one person.

  • Multiple Spots booking: If you are planning to book to multiple spots, you just change need to change the quantity.

We have implemented this policy to ensure an accurate headcount and to ensure that all guests can enjoy their experience with us to the fullest. This allows us to manage group sizes, provide personalized services, and maintain the highest level of safety for our guests.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO COME TO CHURCHILL?

  • 250 different species of Birds begin to arrive in May

  • Over 50,000 Beluga Whales begin to arrive in July

  • Nearly 900 Polar Bears begin to return off the ice in July/Aug and stay till the ice returns Mid-Late Nov

  • The tour starts off at;

    1st Stop - Cape Merry, the Parks Canada Historical site, overlooks the mouth of the Churchill River joining into the Hudson Bay, a good vantage point to spot any bears and whales.

    2nd Stop - Inukshuk behind the complex

    Carrying on down the back coastal road and a few side trails to check out for wildlife.

    3rd Stop - Miss Piggy, the plane wreck.

    4th Stop - Polar Bear Holding facility.

    We head back to town for lunch at 12:00 (meals not included)

    After lunch;

    5th Stop - Polar Bear Alley.

    6th Stop - "Golfballs" area

    7th Stop - Birds Cove in the Churchill Wildlife management area.

    8th Stop - Churchill Northern Study Centre.

    *Photo Ops at each location and of

    course for any wildlife we encounter.

    Finally we backtrack our way back to town.

  • Yes, when safe to do so. A safe distance of 100m from any Polar Bears. It also depends on the Bears behavior.

  • We Pick you up at your accommodations!!

    You will also receive an automatic appointment reminder 24 hours prior, you can respond with your pick up location.

  • There is only 2 ways to get here.

    1 - Plane - You can fly (Calm Air) Winnipeg - Churchill (2.5hr flight time )

    2 - Train - (Via Rail) Winnipeg - Churchill. (49hrs) Sunday/Tuesday (12:05pm departure is currenty posted on the Via Rail site)

    or (Via Rail) Thompson - Churchill. (16hrs) Monday/Wednesday/Friday (5:00pm departure is currently posted on the Via Rail site)

    3 - Road - Train combo - You can drive to Thompson Mb from Winnipeg (7-8 hr drive) and hop on the train. This way saves a days travel to and from Churchill -vs - train all the way from Winnipeg.

    PersonalIy this is usually what I Do - I leave Winnipeg by 6:00am and have a few hours in Thompson to have a meal, order pizza and get snacks for the train ride. On the other end Thompson (arrive near noon, grab a Tims, fuel, snacks and hit the road to Winnipeg, typically arrive back in the city 9:30-10:00pm

  • Living in Churchill, I never actually had to stay in any, so I have no personal experience to draw from. I will list them off as listed on the Town of Churchill site, phone numbers, email address’ and I also included all the websites I could find.

    Some provide breakfast, some provide breakfast food and you cook yourself, some may not provide food at all. You can ask when you call around.
